The summary on on the back of the book says: A story both bittersweet and heartwarming of a mother and her son...and of his unusual gift. The decade of the thirties was a time of enormous uncertainty-for the world, for America, and in particular for one lonely, struggling mother and her disabled son. Their story os one of unyielding love and incredible sacrifices in the face of circumstances beyond belief.
But then The Gift appears...where has it come from, and why? How can a young boy who cannot communicate provide comfort and direction to seekers who learn of his special ability? Whatever the source, its presences brings a single shaft of light and hope to Mary and her beloved son, Jack....Will it be enough?
That truly doesn't do the book justice. Yes, in the beginning I read it because, my mom wrote it, but just a few pages into it, I couldn't put it down. My friend, Laura, read it and said the same thing. It is an amazing book.
Like I said earlier, my mom co-authored this book with Michael Landon Jr. They have been writing partners for a long time and have collaborated on many projects together. For example, they wrote (he directed) many of the Love Comes Softly movies on the Hallmark Channel and the movie Saving Sarah Cain on Lifetime. This past February their first project came to life in on the big screen, in select cities. The Velveteen Rabbit was released and we as a family went to the premiere in Fort Collins, Co. Truly great movies.
I thought that I would do a short interview with Cindy (mom) and Michael. Before I get into the questions I just want to say that these two people are truly talented. I have only met Michael once, but have talked to him numerous times on the phone- he monopolizes as much of my moms time as my dad! My mom is the mom that everyone would want. She is supportive and understanding and so fun to be around.
That being said, onto the interview! These questions are silly and ones that you may get on a forwarded email or on Facebook, but I always think that they are the most fun.
Cindy (C): Through my brother, Rick, who attended the American Film Institute with Michael.
