My family loves Christmas. It is a time to eat, remember the good ol' days, be with family and think about others. This Christmas, we are pretty tight on money. It will definitely NOT be what it has been in the past. We will focus a lot on our family and the reason for the season. We have many traditions for Christmas time in our family. I won't go into them now, that's for a later post:) I will tell you about one though. Every year we go to a toy store and let all the kids pick out toys for the Toys for Tots program. We give them a limit and let them go. Delaney even got in on it last year. My parents started this with me and my brother and sister when we were young. It is a great feeling to know that we will be making a little kids day. It also reminds us of how lucky we are. This year, we will still do it, the limit will be a little less.
A couple days ago, we were jamming out to KLOVE in the rocking mini van (there's a sentence I never thought I'd say) and they advertised
something called Operation Christmas Child. The idea of this project is to take an ordinary shoebox, wrap it (lid separately) and fill it with personal hygiene items, small toys and candy. It then gets shipped to a needy child in Bogota, Columbia. All it costs is $7.00 and the cost of the items you pack! It is such an inexpensive way to bring hope, happiness and love to a child.There are drop off locations all over. If you are in Tucson, you can drop your box off at Calvary Chapel at 8725 E.Speedway. I am looking forward to this! I know that we are not able to do as much because money is tight, but if we can help a child in finding Faith and happiness by doing THIS, why not?

ReplyDeleteOur church is doing this and we thought it was a great idea for the kids to be involved with. Both my kids are going to be filling their boxes this weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this. Our MOPS group does it too. The discussion groups are filling 2 boxes each and then those that want to do one on their own can. It's a great way to get your kids thinking about others instead of themselves all the time. When we go especially when they are little I tell them we're shopping for someone else today. I'll repeat it when they ask to get something for themselves. Then the following year they understand a little more. Great program!
