So Ya Think Throwin' a Toddler's Birthday Party Is Easy? I Did...

I know that throwing ANY kind of a party is no easy task, but I have learned that one for a toddler, requires special attention. I had been planning on having a Mickey Mouse party for Delaney's second birthday for quite some time. I actually think that was the easiest part; picking a theme. The next thing to do was figure out a cake. I have been experimenting with cakes lately and I knew I wanted a great cake. What I have come to learn is that planning is the easy part. It is the carrying out part that is a challenge, when you have kids. I don't think it was like that before. I loved planning and I always thought that was the most difficult part- once planned, I just had to do it! The day of her party came... I knew that I needed to get the house clean, make the food, finish the cake, feed kids, put kids down for naps, change them, get them dressed, get me dressed etc. It is just impossible with two small ones. Thank goodness my parents agreed to take them for the morning. It is AMAZING what can get accomplished when you don't have to stop for anything. I cleaned, finished the cake, got everything else ready and the kids napped at my parents!

Her party was great! She opened one present (a doll from Ami:) and she was set... I opened the rest. She had a great time! I am so thankful for all our family and friends. I know not everyone could come, but we are thankful for you ALL that are in our lives. Here are some pictures of the party.
Opening her first present... Sorry it's blurry.

Her first heels... Thanks great aunt Leigh Ann!

Brody had fun too. Here he is jamming out with Ethan.

Delaney's CAAA (yes she sounds like she's from Boston)

This is what I see now every time Braydon is over....
they take turns sitting on each other's lap to watch TV!
Here is the Minnie cake I made!!!! I was sad when we had to cut into it!

Getting ready to blow out the candle!!! She does not like the singing part- that's why she is sad!

Chowing down....

Here are some tips for a toddler's birthday:

1. Pick a theme
2. If possible, find some help so you can focus on getting things ready for the party
3. Have the kiddo(s) nap!!! No one wants to cry at their party... no matter what the song says
4. Keep it going.... try not to just sit forever.
5. It doesn't have to be a marathon. Your child WILL get exhausted!
6. Try not to stress- this one is so hard for me. Eric had to constantly remind me to chill out. You don't want to miss out.

7.**** If you are video taping, make sure the lens is open****** I will look back at Delaney's 1t birthday and.... just listen. (I still love you babe:)

These are just the things that I have figured out with all 2 parties I have done!!

  6. You didn't need any decorations or entertainment, Delaney was all the party needed. She was adorable, whether she was kissing the babies, searching for your Dad or just dancing and falling on the ground. What a cutie!
