Halloween 2011

I don't love Halloween.... I don't know that ever have, but I have kids now. Kids that LOVE to dress up! This year was a blast! Delaney really wanted to be Rapunzel. She wanted the long hair and all. Brody didn't care too much, but he loved the Spiderman costume we found at Target so that's what he wore. We got Delaney's dress from the Disney store, not cheap, but necessary. I knew that she would wear the dress pretty much everyday for the rest of the year, so it needed to hold up against the 'little princess'. We ended up finding the Rapunzel wig, which is 2 ft of hair, in the doll section of Target! Seriously, lucky!

Brody didn't take a nap on Halloween, so I knew we were fighting the clock.  On Halloween, I was very insistent that the kids eat dinner before they put on their costumes, so we ate as soon as possible. Delaney was literally holding the last bit of pizza crust while she was getting down and asking to get dressed. Up until this point, she had only tried on her costume once. I told her we would put some make up on and she was stoked! Brody was sad when I didn't put make up on him, so we compromised and we slicked his hair back.

He was slightly excited:)

She was so ready! She would not let go of the door knob

Brody saying, "It's me Granddaddy"

At the first house...

At Aunt Kristin's house.

Brody was starting to get tired....

Starting to fade....

Poor baby... this was right before I carried him
My parent's handed out candy for us while we took the kiddos out and when we got back, Delaney decided it would be fun to hand out candy with Eric....she was over her wig by then.

Brody was pretty much asleep on the floor and Delaney was wide awake, waiting for more kids. It was a good time. And just as I thought, the following morning, Delaney came out of her room in her Rapunzel costume- not sure if she put it on in the middle of the night or what, but Rapunzel has been living in our house ever since.

Pumpkin Pickin

Our annual trip to pumpkin happened the day before Halloween again this year. It is so funny how empty it is so close to Halloween. We went to Apple Annie's again, although next year we will be taking the trip to Agua Linda. The first thing we did was immediately get on the hay ride to go pick our pumpkins. Brody saw the tractor the second we pulled up and there was no way we were doing anything else first.

Delaney's pose kills me

He loves his Mummy.... hehehe

He was super excited!
So was she!

Once we arrived at the pumpkin patch, Delaney was instantly irritated because she was not allowed to hold the massive cutters that could chop her arm off, so finding the "perfect pumpkins" went a little quicker than usual.
Getting the two of them to look is impossible

She got to at least help Daddy with the cutters
Delaney's pumpkin
Brody helping Daddy
Brody's pumpkin

Apparently we were keeping Brody up...

Back to the cutters again...

I was there too!

When we got back from the hayride, the kids played in the corn kernels for a bit and then we went to eat some food. BUT there was no food to eat! All they had was Kettle Korn and snow cones. We got both:) The bees decided that they loved the snow cones and thus forced us to throw the yummy snow cones into the bee infested trash cans.
She was freaking out!

Eric decided that he wanted some produce so Delaney and I hung out while the boys did some shopping. Brody helped Eric do it all! Seriously melted my heart. He was so proud of himself.

Another pumpkin picking day in the history books:)

Belle and Buzz

You see, in my house, we are always ready for a party. And by party, I mean costume party. From the moment my kids wake up, they are hounding me to help them put on their outfits. I put Brody's on first, then Delaney's because after putting on her dress, we have to find the matching dancing shoes and crown. From that moment on....they are to be called Princess or Belle and Buzz. They wear them all day, with two exceptions: 1. They are not allowed to eat with them on 2.They are not allowed outside in them either. Now that the weather is flipping gorgeous, they are outside more, so Belle and Buzz are appearing a little less often.

Princess Belle, with her dress right over her jammies, eating candy hearts, watching TV (mom the the year)

I love her feet.... she always sits like that!

Buzz Lightyear.... wouldn't let me take a picture of his face.

My favorite part of the costume.... the back.

So, if you ever just drop by, be prepared for a princess, a space man, and a mom in sweatpants (sexy ones of course) to greet you at the door.
It's never dull at the Mikkelson casa.

A Princess and A Grumpy Spaceman

I had a different picture of Halloween in my head this year (shocker, I know). The original plan was to turn Delaney's flower girl dress into a Cinderella gown and make a Gus Gus costume for Brody. For those that dont' follow the fairy tales, Gus Gus is the fluffier mouse on Cinderella...the one who says, "Hap hap hap happy birthday!". Ok so that didn't happen. My mom did a great job on Delaney's dress.... we just called her a beautiful princess and for Brody, he loves Buzz Lightyear, so that's what we did.

Halloween day was jammed packed with church, bible study and a birthday party. We got home from the party and literally had to change them into their costumes and jet. I got Delaney dressed and put some makeup on her (that was so cute) and I could hear Eric getting Brody ready. For whatever reason, he was a pissed off little space ranger (turns out he had a sinus infection and wasn't feeling swell). Here are some of the pictures we attempted:

The Princess

The rear of Buzz Lightyear

Seriously.

Awesome.

At this point...we left.

Still pissy.

We went to a neighborhood nearby that I used to Trick-or-Treat in when I was little and boy was it nuts! We loaded up the stroller (way too scary to let them walk with no sidewalks and no lights yet) and we made it to the first house. We put Brody down and told him to follow Delaney. Delaney was so in her element. The people played right into her. "Oh you look beautiful!" And she would reply, "Thank you, I know."  She got her candy and Brody got his.... but then he tried to go into the house and when i grabbed him....the screaming started again. He just really wanted to go into every one's house!

The first house....

This is me trying to get him away from the poor lady.

Like every good mother, I bribed him with a sucker.

He wouldn't even hold the stupid bucket!

Little break for some tortilla chips.Totally normal.

Again, trying to get him to at least attempt this on his own.

We decided to call it a night, but first headed over to Nana and Granddaddy's. Delaney was infatuated with the Jack-o-Lantern and Brody just wanted in the house, so again no pictures of the two together, but here are the rest from that night!

Still a little miffed...

Maybe Granddaddy can make him happy:)

Happy watching Caillou

My princess

Awwww.... a nice moment.
