Cleaning Blood- with no chemicals!

Brody has been getting a bloody nose (occasionally) at night. It's not fun when he walks into my room at 6:00 am with a face that is full of blood- it makes ya jump out of bed! Well, of course blood gets on the pillow case and I have to wash them. Since I switched to the Get Clean line from Shaklee, I don't have any laundry detergents or stain remover that have toxins in them. That's right, no Oxy Clean, no Shout. What I did was take my trusty Basic H, put a couple drops of it (full strength) directly on the stain and then I tossed in the washing machine. I have to admit, I took the before picture and thought, well, if this works, it'll make a great post, but secretly I was doubting it (bad Nicole).

So the moment was upon me (laundry is that dramatic for me) and what did I see? NO BLOOD! Just wrinkles- don't judge, I hate laundry.

I love this stuff!!

You Up For The Challenge?

I have a BIG challenge for you. You may want some piece and quiet for this...so pretend you have to go to the bathroom and close the door. Now, I want you to close your eyes and think. Think about where you are right now in your life. Are you content? Are you disappointed? Are you overall happy, but maybe there are some things you want to improve on? This self reflection should be eye opening, it was when I did it. My friends, there are four months left of 2012. I know personally, that I want to start 2013 in a better place than I am in now. So here is my challenge.

It's called Project Transform.

I have a BIG goal of helping 50 families change the health of their lives over the next 4 months. Could that be you? Could that be your family? Could that be someone you know? Are you (or someone you know) tired of being tired, have no energy, in debt, eat horribly and are just plain sick of it? I am learning that for me and my family the little changes have big impact.

Are there changes that you and/ or your family have been saying they need to make to be healthier? What are you waiting for? If you are like me, then you get overwhelmed with this sometimes. Too many decisions. So, pick just ONE area of health to achieve in the next 4 months.

I promise your life will change

Here are some examples of what I mean:
- Stronger/ more muscle
- Thinner/ leaner
- Wealthier/ Debt Free
- Stringer immune system/ Less illness
- Chemical Free Home
- Schedule/Routine
- Better Nutrition

This past year, Eric and I have been working hard to get rid of debt so we can build our dream house with only a mortgage! I now work from home so I can create a full time income so when both kids are in school, I can still be home for them every day.
That goal will continue throughout this next year, but I have added another goal (I know, I broke my own rule, but these I can do simultaneously) My new TRANSFORMATION goal is to lose 15 pounds and complete the couch to 5K training.

To achieve these goals, I need accountability. Others around me to cheer me on and encourage me. I need YOU!

I also need a specific action plan. I will talk more about this soon!

90% of success is simply doing it.

Important: Be goal specific....how many pounds do you want to lose, how much debt will you pay off, how much muscle will you pack on, switch all ALL toxic cleaners, etc. Then BELIEVE and increase your personal development. Read books, watch videos, hang out with like-minded people.

So, I don't know about you....all I know is I am ready to feel better about myself and pay off some of that debt and get running!

Join me for a healthier YOU! Who will join me in the challenge?

NOW-December 31, 2012

Baby Safe and Aunt Approved

My sister was given a bouncer for Griffin that was in need of some TLC. It had not been used in a while and when she asked what I would use to clean it, I said, "No! I want to do it! And blog about it!" So that's what I did. I went over to her house one day (which is on the street behind me) armed with my tool kit.
Isn't it cute?? $2.00 at Michael's!

Right away, I went to work. We needed it cleaned and disinfected. Griffin is putting EVERYTHING in his mouth that he can, so it needed to be cleaned, safely. Enter Shaklee. I sprayed Basic G all over it and let it sit for a couple minutes before I wiped it off.
If you want to know about the awesomeness of Basic G and how it kicks bleach's butt, click here:) And then come here.
Then I used the Basic H (I just used the all-purpose cleaner- which is made with 16 oz of water and 1/4 tsp of Basic H) to get into all the cracks and crevices (that's what she said:). Anyway, we were really fortunate because the toy parts actually come off, so I was able to clean under them as well!

He likes watching his Aunt Nicole clean....
and we are not getting high with the chemicals! Win-win!

Seriously-it's so clean!

This is a before (duh) and I didn't get a good after because he was already in it!

I am happy to report that the bouncer looked brand-frickin-new. And Griffin can chow on it all the live the long day

He's amazed. He's thinking, 'Wow, this is so clean and it doesn't smell like disgusting chemicals, I don't feel all loopy, I love Shaklee, my aunt is the coolest person alive, I think I pooped in the clean seat, I want to eat this." I have a little known talent of reading minds....just sayin'.
Ta-da! All clean and he's a bit uneasy about the unstableness (is that a word? well it is today) underneath him, crack me up. He's like- Whoa.

For those of you who want to read minds of babies as well, order some Shaklee here.
Okay so you may not be able to read minds exactly, BUT your mind will be a lot clearer without all the yucky chemicals.

Spinach Artichoke Pasta

I love finding a new meal that everyone likes. This my friends, is tasty. If you like spinach artichoke dip (my entire mouth fills with saliva as I say it) then you will love this.

Here are the necessary parts:

  • 1- 12 oz box of pasta- bow tie is my fav
  • 1 tsp. butter
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 8 oz package of cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1- 14 oz can artichoke hearts (in water, not oil), drain em and chop em
  • 10 oz chopped, frozen spinach, thawed- make sure to get as much water out as possible
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, shredded
Directions:

  • Cook pasta as directed.
  • In a medium sauce pan on MEDIUM heat (trust me, medium) melt butter and garlic cook about 30 seconds
  • Add cream cheese, stir until melted
  • Slowly stir in milk, then add sour cream, lemon juice, salt and red pepper flakes
  • Stir in artichoke hearts, spinach, and Parmesan cheese
  • Drain pasta, add sauce to pasta and eat up!
We had some Caesar salad with this and it was perfect. The littles even liked it!

Oh and check this out....this is one of my "DUH why have I not thought of this before" moments.....

First, get an ice cube tray or two. Then fill it with lemonade....watch some Friends while they freeze. Take a mason jar (okay it doesn't really have to be a mason jar, a regular boring glass works just as well) fill it with the frozen lemonade ice cubes, then pour iced tea over the lemonade cubes. Bam! Instant Arnold Palmer. Yummy.

I like to use my Cinch tea...it gives me an extra boost of energy without making me feel like I am on crack! Always a plus!

What do you like to drink to cool off?

Mini-office

One of the things that I needed to get used to in this house was the total lack of space for a desk. We have zero extra space for our desk that is currently in storage. When I started working from home, I knew I needed some kind of work space. Just something to make me feel like it's an actual job and so I  wouldn't sit down on the couch, turn on Friends and then "not get any work done". So here is my mini-desk. All that I need to write a blog post, watch some training videos, make a phone call, check my planner, take some notes, email, etc. is right here:)

Like I said, no space- we traded my sister a large sofa table for this smaller table (mainly because I had it's twin under the other window). I just decided that instead of transferring stuff back and forth, that I would make a permanent home for some of my supplies:)

Okay, so Friends was on any way....but you get what I mean:)

If you are ready to change your life and follow your dreams, register for the webinar that's TONIGHT at 9:00 pm CENTRAL TIME. If I can do it- you can do it!

Clean livin'

Yes, I am a Shaklee distributor....wanna know why?
Because of them:

They are my life! And I want what's best for them. I began looking for healthier, cleaner, safer ways for us to live. This included the foods that we eat, the way that we clean, even the way we spend our money. Shaklee has made a huge difference in our lives. Please understand that I only post about Shaklee because it is such a big part of our life now. I never used to care about how to make my home really "healthy". I really liked the way a super, 'clean' house smelled- you know, all the chemicals, I smelly, meant clean. I want to share with you a list that ensures a healthy home. I am very careful now as to what I bring into the house and I am a crazy label reader! I am not trying to lecture you- just educate you on how to have a healthy home:)

Here are some safe, healthy things to have in your home:

  • Fresh air. Open your windows to reduce indoor air pollution. (Obviously when it's 110 outside, not possible, but you understand the logic)
  • Essential oils. Use these instead of air fresheners.
  • Plants. Besides being nice to look at, they can absorb harmful gases and help clean the air.
  • Organic cotton bedding. Avoid standard bedding treated with chemicals.
  • Floors made of recycled and renewable resources.
  • Healthy paint. That new paint smell can be as nasty as it smells. Choose low VOC paint instead.
  • Cleaners that are truly cleaner. Look for these clean credentials on Get Clean products: non-toxic, natural, biodegradable, concentrated, and hypoallergenic.
  • Compact fluorescent lighting. They last a whole lot longer.
  • Energy Star-rated appliances. Save money and energy.
  • A low-flush toilet. Replace the largest user of water in your house. Ultra low flushers cut water use by one-fifth.
  • Low-flow showerheads. Same pressure. Less water.
  • Your flicker finger. Turn off lights and appliances when you're not using them.
  • Gray water system. Install one to recycle used household water for your lawn. (I would love this!)
  • Tankless water heater. Save money, energy, and space in the broom closet. Use it to store your new Get Clean Starter Kit.
    • Make the earth healthier for all of us who call it home by using Shaklee products!

So seriously...take a look around your house- you all use cleaners, maybe it's time to change brands- which could lead to a lifestyle change.

    Shiny sink in da house!

It's been about two years now since I discovered the FlyLady. I shined my sink and still have to have a clean kitchen before I can go to bed. However, since making the decision to "go green" and since I have found Shaklee, the way I shined my sink changed. This sink is pretty beat up. We are renting right now this sink has been a pain to clean and keep clean. So when you see these before pictures-you will freak. To my defense, it was under the dryer basket and I didn't really see how nasty is was, but wow, was it gross!
    Omg...seriously embarrassing.

    I needed to disinfect the sink, but I did not want to use bleach. So, instead, I used Basic G. I filled up one side of the sink with hot water and then put 3/4 oz. of the Basic G (it's not a very deep sink). I decided to do the other side at the same time-the kids were asleep and I knew I didn't need to use it. Then I let it sit for an hour.. {cue Jeopardy theme song}

Then that exciting moment came- the time to drain the sink and with all those nasty germs twisting and turing down the drain like a mini-germ infested tornado. Then came the work. I brought out my trusty Scour Off- now this is the stuff that replaces Comet or Ajax. I simply use a sponge, rub it all over the surface and rinse it off. This stuff is amazing. It actually got rid of the black scuff marks! Did I mention that it you can clean with this without getting high? Ya can! It's made from cherry pits- it smells yummy! My friend's son actually ate some of this one time and when she called poison control, they said there were no ingredients that were harmful! That my friends, is one awesome cleaner. After the Scour-off was rinsed off, I simply dried the sink with a paper towel and put my cute little soap dispensers back and voila! A beautiful, clean, sanitized sink!

Oh yeah baby.... that's right.... so shiny:)

The FlyLady always says to jump in where you are- and she always tells you to shine your sink (btw, when I say that, I actually say, "shine your shink". It's kinda hard). Starting the day with a clean kitchen just starts your day off right. I really get annoyed when dishes magically appear over night. It puts me in an instant bad mood. I seriously get excited to clean!

Here are a couple before afters, cuz who doesn't love those?

So try it- I triple dog dare you- shine your shink;)

Menu plan Monday: July 2, 2012

It's Monday. How in the world is it Monday already?! We have a busy week! It's Daylen's birthday, 4th of July, and just our normal crazy lives! We are still cleaning out our pantry, fridge and freezers if you can believe it! Last week we spent $60 on groceries....that included milk, creamer, fresh fruit and veggies, and some lunch meat for Eric's lunch (oh and pull-ups- I get nervous to send Brody to church for three hours in chonies- and those were $10)! This week we hope to spend even less!

    Here is our menu:

Monday: Daylen's favorite: Costco Tilapia, green beans, rice
Tuesday: Roast, red potatoes, carrots, mashed potatoes
    Wednesday: Burgers, tater tots, corn.
    Thursday: Dinner at sister's-in-law:)
Friday: Sweet and Sour chicken (new recipe) and brown rice
    Saturday: Date night maybe??

We've totally cut back on our 'snack food'. Delaney is obsessed with granola bars and the way we go through them, makes them expensive! So we searched Pinterest and found a great, simple recipe to actually make them! Check back tomorrow for the recipe (and pictures).

Another way we have been saving money and getting healthier is we stopped buying sodas. I must admit, I do miss having soda in the house, but seriously, if it's in the house, I will drink. NO will power. When we are dying of thirst and have had enough water, we drink two different things.

One: Green tea with honey (in a mason jar, because everything is better in a mason jar)

Two: Shaklee's Cinch energy tea mix. It's got just what I need in the middle of the day to give me a little extra energy (without all the jitters). We sweeten it up with either Stevia or honey. It's great- gluten free, no artificial flavors, sweeteners, colors, or preservatives added. And of course, we drink it in a mason jar;)

I keep both the green tea bags and the Cinch packets in a sugar packet container right next to the stove:)
    Super handy!

**Tomorrow night, there will be a FREE webinar that discusses all the awesomeness that is Shaklee. It will discuss the products a bit and answer any questions you might have about the amazing opportunity. It is a wonderful, non-threatening way to hear about the business. It's easy- you register (top right of the blog, a lady, staring at the sky....click on her) and then when the time comes, you log on, sit back and enjoy! If you are wondering if working from home really works, this is proof. Check it out.**
