Cleaning Blood- with no chemicals!

Brody has been getting a bloody nose (occasionally) at night. It's not fun when he walks into my room at 6:00 am with a face that is full of blood- it makes ya jump out of bed! Well, of course blood gets on the pillow case and I have to wash them. Since I switched to the Get Clean line from Shaklee, I don't have any laundry detergents or stain remover that have toxins in them. That's right, no Oxy Clean, no Shout. What I did was take my trusty Basic H, put a couple drops of it (full strength) directly on the stain and then I tossed in the washing machine. I have to admit, I took the before picture and thought, well, if this works, it'll make a great post, but secretly I was doubting it (bad Nicole). 

So the moment was upon me (laundry is that dramatic for me) and what did I see? NO BLOOD! Just wrinkles- don't judge, I hate laundry.

Baby Safe and Aunt Approved

My sister was given a bouncer for Griffin that was in need of some TLC. It had not been used in a while and when she asked what I would use to clean it, I said, "No! I want to do it! And blog about it!" So that's what I did. I went over to her house one day (which is on the street behind me) armed with my tool kit.

Right away, I went to work. We needed it cleaned and disinfected. Griffin is putting EVERYTHING in his mouth that he can, so it needed to be cleaned, safely. Enter Shaklee. I sprayed Basic G all over it and let it sit for a couple minutes before I wiped it off.

Then I used the Basic H (I just used the all-purpose cleaner- which is made with 16 oz of water and 1/4 tsp of Basic H) to get into all the cracks and crevices (that's what she said:). Anyway, we were really fortunate because the toy parts actually come off, so I was able to clean under them as well!

He's amazed. He's thinking, 'Wow, this is so clean and it doesn't smell like disgusting chemicals, I don't feel all loopy, I love Shaklee, my aunt is the coolest person alive, I think I pooped in the clean seat, I want to eat this." I have a little known talent of reading minds....just sayin'.

Ta-da! All clean and he's a bit uneasy about the unstableness (is that a word? well it is today) underneath him, crack me up. He's like- Whoa.

Tell Me I'm Not the Only One

I had a moment yesterday that literally made me laugh out loud. And smile from ear to ear. It. got me thinking, I can't be the only one that does this. What is this "thing" you ask? Well, I don't know what you call it, but I call it June Clever time!

Still confused? Let me explain further. But before I do, did you know......

Damn skippy.

 The house is a mess, the kids are dirty and most likely just in chonies, I am in sexy sweatpants, the blinds might still be closed, a load of laundry sits on the bed, and another one in the dryer and yet another one in the washer....then the phone rings. "Hi Babe, I'm on my way home." Oh crap- those 7 words throw me into action faster than you can sexy sweatpants. In my mind, I am turning a a fast, tornado like circle and when I stop- I have June Clever powers. Like actual amazing homemaker powers. It's powerful. I'm powerful. I have a small routine. I turn on the vacuum (Roomba to the rescue)! I run to the kitchen, make sure the dishes are done (they usually are- I really hate dirty dishes in the sink), then I fill up the water pitcher, put some water on the stove for green tea, clean out the coffee pot, and wipe down the counters. I then move to the living room, I straighten all the pillows, fold the blankets, put toys away, turn on my candle. etc. Then I rush to our room, put away the load that 's on our bed, re-start the dryer and then re-wash the clothes in the washer- usually on the express setting. By this time, the water is boiling so I throw some tea bags in and then make coffee (yes we drink it in the afternoon. Eric gets up at 3:30am for work every day. The man is tired).


 I run around around the house picking up and then I change my clothes, brush my hair, fix my make-up, try to remember if I brushed my teeth, flush the potty and clean it off (thank you Brody) and then it's time for the kids. I try to make them look a little less homeless and by that time Eric is almost home and I sit down, all the while pretending that this house and I looked like this all day. I know he knows, or he will after this, but that's okay. It's my job. He deserves a nice home to come home to. 

I just think it's funny how much I get done in an hour (that's his commute). I often chuckle to myself and think, if only I did this earlier, but no- the house can't stay clean right now- it is for real impossible. Just sayin'. So that 30 minutes or so of clean bliss, is enough to make me happy.

• Floors made of recycled and renewable resources.
• Healthy paint. That new paint smell can be as nasty as it smells. Choose low VOC paint instead.
• Cleaners that are truly cleaner. Look for these clean credentials on Get Clean products: non-toxic, natural, biodegradable, concentrated, and hypoallergenic.

• Compact fluorescent lighting. They last a whole lot longer.
• Energy Star-rated appliances. Save money and energy.
• A low-flush toilet. Replace the largest user of water in your house. Ultra low flushers cut water use by one-fifth.
• Low-flow showerheads. Same pressure. Less water.
• Your flicker finger. Turn off lights and appliances when you're not using them.
• Gray water system. Install one to recycle used household water for your lawn. (I would love this!)
• Tankless water heater. Save money, energy, and space in the broom closet. Use it to store your new Get Clean Starter Kit.

• Make the earth healthier for all of us who call it home by using Shaklee products!

So seriously...take a look around your house- you all use cleaners, maybe it's time to change brands- which could lead to a lifestyle change. 

Shiny sink in da house!

It's been about two years now since I discovered the FlyLady. I shined my sink and still have to have a clean kitchen before I can go to bed. However, since making the decision to "go green" and since I have found Shaklee, the way I shined my sink changed. This sink is pretty beat up. We are renting right now this sink has been a pain to clean and keep clean. So when you see these before pictures-you will freak. To my defense, it was under the dryer basket and I didn't really see how nasty is was, but wow, was it gross!

Omg...seriously embarrassing.

I needed to disinfect the sink, but I did not want to use bleach. So, instead, I used Basic G. I filled up one side of the sink with hot water and then put 3/4 oz. of the Basic G (it's not a very deep sink). I decided to do the other side at the same time-the kids were asleep and I knew I didn't need to use it. Then I let it sit for an hour.. {cue Jeopardy theme song}

Then that exciting moment came- the time to drain the sink and with all those nasty germs twisting and turing down the drain like a mini-germ infested tornado.Then came the work. I brought out my trusty Scour Off- now this is the stuff that replaces Comet or Ajax. I simply use a sponge, rub it all over the surface and rinse it off. This stuff is amazing. It actually got rid of the black scuff marks! Did I mention that it you can clean with this without getting high? Ya can! It's made from cherry pits- it smells yummy! My friend's son actually ate some of this one time and when she called poison control, they said there were no ingredients that were harmful! That my friends, is one awesome cleaner. After the Scour-off was rinsed off, I simply dried the sink with a paper towel and put my cute little soap dispensers back and voila! A beautiful, clean, sanitized sink!

The FlyLady always says to jump in where you are- and she always tells you to shine your sink (btw, when I say that, I actually say, "shine your shink". It's kinda hard). Starting the day with a clean kitchen just starts your day off right. I really get annoyed when dishes magically appear over night. It puts me in an instant bad mood. I seriously get excited to clean!

Germs Be Gone!

Puke, vomit, mud, poo, a potty training little BOY.... have your attention? It wasn't meant to gross you out-okay maybe it was. The point is, what do you do when such lovely acts of life happen in your bathroom? If you are like most, you pull out the bleach, the Lysol, the Clorox, whatever.... you disinfect the toilet, the door knobs, the light switch, the sink- ya go crazy! Well I am here to tell you people there's a new disinfectant in town and guess what? It's safe and it works- better than those other ones.

This bad boy is called Basic G 

Here are some cool facts:

The safest disinfectant on the market! Nonflammable, Biodegradable & Non-toxic. Cleans, Disinfects & Deodorizes in 1 Easy Step! (Once mixed, use in 30 days)

Mix 3/8 teaspoon to 16 oz spray bottle.

Mix 1 tablespoon to 1 gallon of water.

Basic-G has a 3 year shelf life. Its residual effectiveness lasts up to three days after application. Chlorine (bleach) used as a disinfectant is effective no more than one hour. Great wherever disinfectants are used! Kills up to 99% of bacteria.

You are probably asking yourself:

 “If it is non-toxic, why are there warnings on the bottle?”

According to EPA standards, bottles must be labeled according to what is IN the bottle.  Now, remember, more than 80,000 products are not registered with the EPA or labeled correctly.  This is a plus for Shaklee and their reputation for integrity in that it is registered and labeled correctly.  So when it comes to the concentrated form of Basic G, if what is IN the bottle were to be consumed, it is toxic by EPA standards.  However, it is not nearly as toxic as other cleaners. 

However, in it’s properly diluted form it is completely non-toxic and not harmful at all.

Shaklee did not put it in the Get Clean line because the advertising of that line is all Non Toxic. While Basic G is non-toxic when diluted it is not in it’s concentrated form thus they left it out of the line.

Glass cleaners: may contain ammonia. Ammonia fumes can irritate the skin, eyes, and respiratory system


Oven cleaners: can be among the most dangerous cleaning products and can cause severe damage to eyes, skin, mouth and throat.


Butyl cellosolve: can cause irritation and tissue damage from inhalation


A person who spends 15 minutes cleaning scale off shower walls could inhale three times the acute exposure limit.
